FAQ

Skate
hire

  • Rolla Bae is now located in Queensland. We run private and public skate events all across Brisbane, Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast, and occasionally in other places (by special request). Check out our Upcoming Events page for public events.

While our heart will always be born in St Kilda, alas, we are no longer located at St Kilda Beach for skate hire. The weather is just too damn unpredictable!

  • Check our UPCOMING EVENTS calendar for pop ups in your area.

We operate public skate hire events across Brisbane, Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast.

We also have an Take Home Skate Hire option that allows you to take home skates (min 10, max 30) for a 2 day rental period (customer pick up and return in Brisbane only).

  • This will depend on the type of event offering skate hire. Generally there will be a designated skate area (rink or court), but occasionally you’ll be allowed to take your skates wherever you like during your session, just as long as you return them at the end of your hire session.

We do not recommend skating on grass! Never leave your equipment unattended because you’ll be responsible for any loss, theft or damage to the skates during your session.

  • As we are fully event based now, it depends on the type of event! Skate hire will either be free or at a charge, generally between $10-$25 depending on the type and duration of the session.

You can also hire protective gear for $3 a piece/set.

  • No, unless an event states that you must pre-book tickets or skate gear prior, then you are able to book and pay for participation on the day.

  • You can pay for hire and purchases at the Rolla Bae caravan. We accept payments by debit, credit or cash.

  • Yes, to hire gear from us you need to be five years old or older.

If you’re under 15 you’ll need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian, and they’ll need to fill in the waiver on your behalf.

FYI for small footed humans, our skate sizes go down to a US/AUS womens size 1.

  • Yep, if you’re under 15 years of age you’ll need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian (who’s over the age of 18). They’ll need to sign the waiver on your behalf, and supervise you throughout your skate session.

  • We have 150 pairs of skates available to hire, ranging from size US/AUS 1 - 14 (womens) and up to size 12 (mens).

They’re colourful unisex quad skates and inline blades by Impala. A great entry level skate.

The wheels are soft gummy wheels so they’re perfect for all kinds of terrains indoors and outdoors.

  • We go down to a size 1 and the largest is a size 14 (womens) and 12 (mens).

    Sizing is US/AUS.

Our skate hosts can help you fit the right size on the day.

We have wristguards, helmets, knee pads and elbow pads available to rent.

  • Yes we do! Check out our Take Home Hire, our skates-to-go option that let’s you can rent 10-30 pairs of skates from us for 2 days (overnight), so you can throw your own skate party! It’s priced at $55 per person (minimum 10, maximum 30). This is only available for customer pick up and return in Brisbane.

  • Yes, everyone must sign the waiver prior to entering the event space or hiring equipment from us. This includes BYO skaters that wish to participate in a Rolla Bae run event / or enter a designated event space (not required if you’re a BYO skater using public pathways where a designated event space is not sectioned off).

If you’re under 15, your parent or guardian will complete the waiver on your behalf.

You can pre-sign the digital waiver (here), or you can scan the QR code on arrival and do it on the day. We’re here to help if you have any problems with it.

  • You’re responsible for all hire equipment during your session, so unfortunately, if you fail to return all rental gear at the end of your session you could be charged a $200 replacement fee. See Waiver for details.

  • Ew, yes! For hygiene reasons everyone MUST wear socks when using rental skates. We recommend long or mid length socks (angle socks tend to rub). If you didn’t bring your own socks, don’t worry. We sell them from the caravan! They’re $10 a pair or you can grab a 3pk for $20.

  • Yes! All gear is thoroughly sanitised after each use so it’s nice and clean for the next person.

Once you’ve finished your session, please return your hired equipment to the designated RETURNS area or the caravan. DO NOT leave your hired gear unattended or by the side of the skate space or you may risk being charged a $200 loss of return fee!

  • Sadly no :( We’ve loved our first 3 years at St Kilda Beach, and it will always have our heart, however, Rolla Bae is now located in Queensland, so we can operate all year round.

Follow us on Instagram or sign up to our emails for updates on any future events that may pop up in Melbourne or other states.

  • Once a hire session has commenced we don’t offer refunds for change of mind or any other reason other than if the weather makes it unsafe to skate.

See our Refunds policy for more details.

  • Yes, for every party package option you will receive the expertise and support of our experienced skaters. They not only bring high energy vibes for a fun and memorable skate party, they are also there to provide a safe experience! Our crew is there to make sure you fit gear correctly, run you through skate basics and safe skating advice, and show you some skate tricks and moves for you to try yourself.

The only option that does not include instructors is our Take Home Skate Hire, where you pick up and return the gear yourself. This option is not recommended for first time skaters, kids parties or those that may need a little extra instruction for a safe skate experience.

  • All of our skate instructors hold a valid Working With Children Check (WWCC or Blue Card).

They also have at least 2 years skate experience.

Most of our instructors are also First Aid trained (Provide First Aid HLTAID011 / Level 2). There will always be at least one First Aider on site at all times during a Rolla Bae event.

  • There are obviously inherent risks that come from any sport, particularly an activity that requires wheels on your feet.

Saying this, Rolla Bae is serious when it comes to safety! We conduct a thorough site assessment prior to every event and develop a Risk Management Plan based on the site and event type.

Our skate instructors are experienced skaters and dedicated to ensuring everyone, particularly beginners, know the basics of skating, this includes showing you how to fall forward safely, finding your balance, how to get up when you fall down (because you probably will), how to stop and to encourage the use of protective gear.

At the very minimum we urge you to wear wrist guards (which are included free with every skate hire)! And if you’re a first time skater, knee & elbow pads and helmets are also encouraged. Particularly for kids that are a little wobbly on their feet. Safety is sexy!

  • Yes we do. Rolla Bae holds Public Liability Insurance up to $20M. A copy of our Certificate of Currency is sent to event organisers.

  • We love throwing skate events at uni and school campuses! We encourage you to reach out to your college’s Student Services or Events department and tell them you’d love to have Rolla Bae host an event for your school!

You can send them a link to our Corporate & Community Events Packages or tell them to get in touch with hello@rollabae.com.

  • This will depend on the type of event and the event organiser, but yes, generally we welcome BYO skaters to Rolla Bae events.

Check out our Upcoming Events for more info.

  • Don’t worry, if you’re not sure where to throw a skate party, we can make some suggestions depending on your location.

Fill in an Event Enquiry Form or shoot us an email at hello@rollabae.com to get rolling.

  • We conduct a full site assessment with you, following this form. We’ll look at the terrain, space and other potential obstacles or trip hazards to assess the viability of the site for a skate event, determine the safe capacity for the site, and create a Risk Management Plan for the event.

  • Yes, we do host events in other states, however it will depend on availability and location.

Travel fees may apply for bookings outside of the Brisbane, Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast metro areas.

    For more info email hello@rollabae.com.

  • YES! Rolla Bae welcomes people in wheelchairs (and carers) to enjoy the skate rink free of charge.

Other
Q’s

  • No, sadly we’ve stopped running skate classes. But we do recommend checking out our mates at @Rollerfit. They offer classes all over Australia (and they’re an awesome bunch of people).

We also have some how-to’s on our IG, so follow us for tips and inspo xo

  • For now, no, we don’t have plans for the Rolla Bae caravan to return to Melbourne for the foreseeable future. The weather in Queensland is kinder on our outdoor business, meaning we can operate year round, rather than just the summer months.

That said, our heart will always belong to St Kilda, so we never say never. Sign up to our emails or follow us on IG for updates on future events or pop ups.

  • We’re hiring casual skate hosts for events in Brisbane, Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast. Find out how you can apply for a job with Rolla Bae on our Jobs page.

  • You certainly can. We provide skate performers for music videos, photoshoots, media opportunities, brand launches and parties.

To find out how, shoot an email to bec@rollabae.com.

  • Yes she is! In fact, in her previous life, our retro beauty was a TV star! We picked her up in 2019 when we got wind of a super down low prop sale after filming had wrapped on a popular Aussie TV show. So she’s far from camera shy ;)

For info on how to rent the caravan, our skate performers or skates/protective gear for shoots, get in touch with bec@rollabae.com for rates and availability.
