We are Rolla Bae.

Proudly sister owned & operated!

Tasmanian born sisters, Bec and Amber spent much of their childhood on blades. Skating the pavements of the Hobart bike track and the ice rink.

It’d been a good decade or so when Bec re-donned wheels and spent a summer along the foreshore of St Kilda beach, clumsily remembering how to skate. Loving the wind in her hair and the sun on her face, she wondered why no-one was offering rentals by the beach, with the nearest roller rink being at least 30 mins drive away. 6 months later, she’d acquired and refurbished an old caravan, filled it with rollerskates and Rolla Bae was born!

When Bec was close to launching Rolla Bae in late 2019, Amber had just returned home from 18 months living abroad in Ibiza. Bec picked up her jet-lagged sister up from the airport and, as you can only really do with family, pushed a paint brush into her hand, and without hesitation (or even a post-flight shower), Amber got to work helping her sister with the finishing touches on the Rolla Bae caravan. Opening doors only a few days later, paint barely dry!

In May 2022, after wrapping Rolla Bae’s final season at St Kilda Beach, and a little weary from three consecutive summers of Melbourne’s chaotic weather and pandemic shutdowns, Amber and Papa Patterson drove the old girl filled with 150 pairs of skates along the coast all the way to sunny Queensland, for a new chapter of Rolla Bae.

Amber Patterson,
Head of Operations

“There’s so much I love about skating… the freedom, the wind in my face, the movement of it, the smile effect...

But the truth? I picked up skating again, after about 15 years off wheels, when my sister thrust a paintbrush in my hands and begged me to help her finish painting the Rolla Bae caravan. I had no choice but to skate again, and the rest is history 😝”

Bec Patterson,
Founder & CEO

“I am hands down the most clumsy skater on our team but I just don’t care, skating always makes me feel happy and free. I do it for me, not to try and be the best skater in the world.”

Fun fact: Bec first met her partner on a skate date! He was a friend of a mutual friend and he’d made a comment to her about rollerskating. The second text message she ever sent him was “what’s your shoe size? I’m bringing skates”.
